Mars the God of War

    This is a picture of Mars the god of war.  He was usually seen  as a warrior in full battle armor wearing a crested helmet and a shield  and lance.  His Roman name is Mars and his Greek name is Ares.  Ares was the son of Zeus and Hera.  The Romans believed that Mars was the father of Romulus and Remus.  

    This is a picture of Mars and Venus at a courtship.  Mars had a lot of affairs, one of Mares affairs was with Venus.  

    This is a picture of Mars and Rhea Silvia.The month of March was named after him, and he had a festival on March 1 called the Feriae Marti, which was the New Year's Day in the old Roman calendar.

    He enjoyed the great noise of battle, and he loved bloody warfare. Conflict and mindless killing was how he liked to spend the day.
Venus and Mars      This is a painting of Mars and Venus.  Mars fell asleep and the little fauns are playing with Marses armor. 
    This is a picture of Mars and Aphrodite.
