This is  the reconstructed gate to Arbeia in the town of South Shields, Tyne and Wear District, England.

 This is a view from the gate across the present excavation/reconstruction.  Note the Victorian development and modern ground level.

This is the site of the original headquarters on site during  the 2nd century.  It was later  modified/demolished during the 3rd century construction phase.

My first day on the job, the morning of August 15th 1999.  Jonathan, the area supervisor, had me work on a rainspout that emptied onto street level during the 3rd century.
