"Chesters"
| One of our field trips was to Chesters. This is a view across the fort. This is private property. Tourists are allowed only on a small section of the grounds. Chester is an anglified corruption of the word "castra" or fort in Latin. | |
| The frigidarium in the commanding officers residence at Chesters. | |
| The hypocaust in the commanding officers home at Chesters. As I add more pictures to the site, you will see pictures of the "new" bath house at Wallsend. | |
| The drainage pipe at the military baths complex at Chesters. | |
| Suzanne and Lois looking at many of the recovered items in the small on site museum at Chesters. | |
| This is a statue of Cautes, who was one of the helpers of Mithras. Mithras worship came to England because of the military. Mithras originated in Persia, but was adopted by Roman soldiers because he promised forgiveness. Several other exotic religions, in addition to the state gods, also made their way to England including Isis worship, Judaism, and Christianity. |
