Software The Latin classes use many different programs to help increase their understanding of the Latin Language and Roman Culture.
This game works like a "note card" review but can be modified and scored as a game or quiz. We have a site license allowing it to be installed on all middle school lab computers. It is a great review for tests and mini-quizzes. |
| Learn Latin Now Version 7 | Transparent Language CD (installed on the tablet of Mr. Yost) that features selections from our text, but also features pronunciation and recording options. |
| Lingua Latina (WinLatin) | A free downloadable program hosted by Bob Hasenfratz at the University of Connecticut that drills students on noun endings, verb declension, and even vocabulary. Versions available for Windows from 3.1 up to 98/NT. Unfortunately no Mac or Vista version. |
| Virtual Pompeii | This program (installed on the laptop of Mr. Yost) contains maps and information on Pompeii, but most importantly allows a "virtual walk" through much of the ruins. Pompeii is the setting of our Cambridge Unit I book following the daily life of L. Cęcilius Iucundus and his family and friends. |
| The Latin classes use many online resources to increase their appreciation and understanding of Latin and the Roman World. Two favorites include the now defunct (May 2002) Capitolium WebCam and the Finnish Nuntii Latini news in Latin RealAudio broadcast. | |
